United States ATM Crimes Increased by 600%

The FBI’s bank crime statistics report that United States Automated Teller Machine (ATM) crimes have increased by 600% from 2019 to 2021.

There are three types of ATM crimes – physical attacks on the actual ATM machines, card skimming devices installed illegally to obtain customers’ information, and robberies at the ATM.

According to the Bank Administration Institute, the most dangerous hours at ATMs are from 7:00 p.m. until midnight, when approximately 40% of ATM-related crimes occur. Not surprisingly more crimes happen in the dark.

Thieves do not like well-illuminated areas. Is the lighting surrounding your ATMs in compliance with state regulations and as bright as it could be? Not sure?

Contact Expert Lighting Group for the best ways to keep your customers, staff, and ATMs safe. We perform extensive audits and site surveys to determine the quality of your ATM lighting and make recommendations on how to keep your facility, including the ATMs as safe as possible.
